Catalogue of Critical Creativity Presentation

I took a look at "creating with words" because I thought it would be interesting to look at from my perspective as a future English teacher. Creating with words is awesome because it goes perfectly with the main objectives of an English classroom, and I wanted to see if there were any suggestions or ideas I could incorporate and make my own.  Creating with words: I love that the activities they suggested were not only dealing with words! I don't know exactly what I was expecting, but I loved that so many of the activities involved photography, hands-on segments, and even moving outside the classroom. Just because you start and focus on words doesn’t mean you can’t use your imagination and go beyond them. I seriously adore this book and how it gives so many suggestions and ideas that I probably wouldn’t have thought of on my own. One of my favorite activities was the idea of Phrankenwords. I loved the idea of combining multiple words that were similar but whe...

Textual Poaching: An Identity Remix

"Heavenly Father, are you really there? And do you hear and answer ev'ry child's prayer? Some say that heaven is far away, But I feel it close around me as I pray. Heavenly Father, I remember now Something that Jesus told disciples long ago: 'Suffer the children to come to me.' Father, in prayer I'm coming now to thee." "Heavenly Mother, are you really there? And can you hear this wondering girl's prayer? I feel like you're always far away And I want to know if you're in my heart to stay. Heavenly Mother, I want to know now If I was made in your image long ago. Suffer your daughters to come and see Mother, I'm praying that I'll one day meet thee." I wanted to do something that had to do with my identity as a female, but I wasn't sure how to start. I began by looking up poems by females and reading some of those, but they already said what I wanted to, and I couldn't find a lot of creative space to rem...

Metaphorical Fashion

The future belongs to all of us regardless of gender, race, sexuality, religious or political affiliation. It takes all of us working together to create a better future. Be a compassionate human.

Process Piece

I created a time lapse video of myself getting ready. Disclaimer: my boyfriend is in part of the video because he wanted to be a part of it, although all he mainly did was try to be funny and cute. I used a video because it's easier to tell what I'm doing, and a time lapse allowed for the video to fit within the required time frame. This isn't my normal process because normally I get ready in like 10 seconds and most of my time is just getting dressed. This process happens when I actually have the time to get ready. I started by using a type of moisturizing oil and working it from the roots of my hair to the ends. It's meant to preserve my roots and the texture of my hair. I used a headband to push my hair back so that I could keep my hair out of my face. I started on my face by using moisturizer and Yarrow Pom, which is an oil that doTERRA manufactures. It's meant to reduce acne and balance hormones. I added some more moisturizer because the oil is blue and someti...

In-Class Seat Assignment

In 5 minutes in class today, write as many opening lines to a story as you can on a Word doc or piece of paper, but the beginning sentence of the story must be followed by this second line: “I’ve never liked Thomas Jefferson since.”

Medium Specificity

I used the app Unfold as my medium. It's designed for Instagram stories, but I wanted to see what other purposes it might have. I got this idea because I had made Instagram stories of pictures of md my boyfriend, but I wanted a way of putting them all together as almost like an online scrapbook. I first made a "story" on Unfold of all the picture collages/pages I had made so far. Unfold offers a variety of templates to use, up to 5 pictures in a variety of layouts, in addition to some with words and without. There is also the option to add text, stickers, and change the color of the "page." You can duplicate the page, in addition to switching the order of the pages. I loved being able to explore how to format the pictures within each page. You could zoom in, switch the picture location, and adjust the filters of the pictures. One thing that I didn't like was while you could choose which picture went in the predetermined location, you couldn't move those...
